ABOUT THIS CD
ITP RECORDS is proud to release the first full album ever recorded by MC
Blvd. It was recorded "Old School Style" back in the early 90's and
was produced, along with Blvd, by guitar legend Don Peake who played that famous
riff at the beginning of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" All
songs were written by MC Blvd, except 'Beautiful People' and are based on Blvd's
life's experiences. Many of the songs were written with the intent and
purpose to help kids
stay away from gangs and to share the stories of what happens when one takes
the wrong path in life. Each song has a positive message behind
it. By example, the song 'Never Forget Who You Are' shows Blvd questioning
his own Raza and telling them to remember their roots. Special thanks
to the late Phillup Munoz, who passed away, for his contribution
on this song.
The song Little Xochtil tells the true story of an innocent little
girl who was shot due to gang violence. This song stands as a reminder
of what can happen from senseless acts. Little Xochitl appears at
the end of the song and says in her tiny innocent voice "Please End the Violence".
Very powerful.
Of course, the title song of the cd "I Remember You Homie", is
a true 'oldies style' classic and became a respected radio hit(still getting
airplay today) and introduced Blvd to the public. It is a true story of the chilling
night where one of Blvd's close friends was shot and died in his arms.
It once again shows the result of senseless gang violence. As Blvd stated,
it was this experience why he took a new path in life and has never
stopped reaching out to kids to change their lives and keep them
out of gangs.
The album opens with the very innovative "Oye Morena" a
first of a kind song mixing salsa and rap (also available on VHS and soon to
be on DVD). The album also shows how diverse Blvd is, with his own style
of love songs like 'Morenita' and 'I Love You'....And if you love Blues,
check out 'Blvd Blues' which he calls Chicano Blues. Blvd and producer
Don Peake were driving one afternoon listening to a Blues song
on the radio. Blvd started singing to it and Peake was so blown away
by what he heard that he slowed down, turned the car around and went
straight to the studio where this song and concept was born. The
song was later recorded live in studio, and appears on this cd with
a full Blues band.
This is a must buy cd if you are a collector of first issues and if you love
Latin Soul Oldies and Old School.
