What Time Is It. |
| For
over twenty years, fans have been searching for any recording by
one of the biggest underground soul oldies groups,"Sly Slick and
Wicked". And, what kicked off this extremely large following of
soul enthusiasts was a song recorded back in 1972 entitled "Confesin
A Feeling" recorded by a group from East Los Angeles named Sly Slick
and Wicked. This group, which began working together in 1969 was
led by Texas native Thomas Hawkins(Sonny Daye) along with Larry
Lewis and Donny "Doc " Everheart. Thomas Hawkins/Sonny Daye is the
official and only legal owner entitled to record and perform as
Sly Slick and Wicked. The reason we bring this point out is that
there was another group who also called themselves Sly
Slick and The Wicked from Clevland Ohio, led by John Wilson.
In the 1990's the two groups went to court against each other and
the Sly Slick and Wicked Group from Los Angeles led by Sunny Daye(Thomas
Hawkins) won the case hands down! Infact, the courts ruled that
the lead singer and voice on Confessin A Feeling Thomas Hawkins,(Sly
Slick and Wicked from Los Angeles) is the legal owner of the name
Sly Slick and Wicked and the courts banned John Wilson's group from
ever using the name Sly Slick and Wicked again in the Western and
SouthWestern United States. Justice was served and the truth prevailed!
Now let's get
back to the great topic of music! This release, "Confessin A Feeling
Live! is very important in that it represents the first collection
of music ever assembled on cd and cassette of Sly Slick and Wicked.
The album contains the all important "Confessin A Feeling" song
as well as some of the most incredible interpretations of such songs
as "Thin Line Between Love and Hate", "Somebody Please", "I Guess
That Don't Make Me a Loser", "I'm Just An Average Guy" and many
more soul standards. Also, this is the only album where you will
find the classic song "Special Girl" written and performed by Thomas
Hawkins/Sonny Daye.
So if you love
rhythm and blues music with powerful harmonies and lead vocals that
come from the soul, then you will absolutely love this classic soul
album by Sly Slick and Wicked.
