"Tierra, named "Best Rhythm and Blues" Vocal Group by Billboard, Cashbox, Record World, and BRE(Black Radio Exclusive), is the first Hispanic act who had four songs on the national music charts and two songs simultaneously in the Top 100. Tierra's invigorating blend of R&B, Salsa and Pop is the precursor to such artists as Miami Sound Machine and Los Lobos." They have performed on such prestigious television shows as The American Music Awards and American Bandstand, and have toured nation wide to sold out shows at Carnegie Hall in New York, The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles and even celebrated, in 1992, "Tierra Day" in Los Angeles at The Greek Theater commemorating the bands 20th Anniversary. They have also been internationally recognized and proudly represented Los Angeles at Osaka's Japan Expo in the 90's. It was a great thrill for the group when the ‘Godfather of Soul", James Brown personally chose Tierra for a tour in 1994.

Tierra, who was founded in 1971 by Rudy Salas, and later joined by brother Steve Salas, has been a musical constant for over two decades now and has played an important role in opening the doors for other Latino superstars, including comedian Paul Rodriguez, Shiela E., Gloria Estefan, Los Lobos, and many more.
The 1980's not only put Tierra on the national map with their biggest hit "Together", but also showcased their diverse talent when they scored big with the TV theme for Norman Lear's "AKA Pablo" starring Paul Rodriguez.

Also during the 80's Tierra recorded several great songs that really never received the promotional attention that they deserved. These sessions turned out classic Tierra songs such as ",Ven A Bailar", "Juntos"(The rare Spanish version of "Together"), "Que Sera"(What Will Be), "Gema"(Tropicãl Version), "Si Te Ven"(never before released), " Life", "Margarita" which received tremendous air play on both English and Spanish stations, plus many other songs. They also recorded a version of the Jackson's "I Want You Back" which hit # 9 on the Billboard dance charts.
This release by ITP Records focuses primarily on the 1980's as referenced above and includes the songs that we feel are so deserving of the proper exposure. Titled- TIERRA-"THE RARE COLLECTION", this compilation of songs will take you through a musical journey by one of the premier Latino bands that originated out of East Los Angeles and who has grown to great prominence through their innovative talent and perserverance.

Today, and with many new fans discovering Tierra's music, the groups popularity has grown to new heights and they continue to tour nationally, record, and most importantly to be a major force in the R&B/Latino music scene!
